But in respect of production of its huge tonnage of phosphate fertilizer, India has very limited or negligible deposit of Rock Phosphate, the basic raw material needed for any phosphate fertilizer production. Most of the phosphate fertilizer manufacturing units in India depend totally on the vast import of this raw material, which values (including freights, etc) more than 85% of cost of production of phosphoric acid (an intermediate for production of any phosphate fertilizer, except single superphosphate).
For economy, all the bulk phosphate fertilizer manufacturers in India switch over from one rock phosphate to other, while most of them do not have any pilot plant to standardise the operating parameters for processing a new origin rock. Sometimes the plant or the technology itself has its limitation for using new rock phosphates.
